ENDOWMENT FUND The Fairview United As Christians we play a major role in helping people. The Fairview United Methodist Church Endowment Fund was established to provide a means for members and friends to make gifts and bequests to the church, the earnings from which will be used to fulfill the purpose of the church in serving God and God's children locally and around the world.

March 7, 2003 To Members of the Fairview Family Dear Friends: A little more than two years ago, at the prompting of Rev. John Wagner, several of us operating as an ad hoc task force undertook a review of Fairview Church's then two Endowment Funds, it being our purpose to determine what measures might be taken to make the endowment a more vital part of the Church's financial future. Although the amounts in each of the Funds had grown over the years since their original funding in 1988, all earnings had been reinvested rather than being put to use for the benefit of the Church, its programs or its properties. Accordingly, it was decided that a revitalization of the endowment would require that the two Funds, their administration and their usage be completely restructured. Our entire first year of monthly meetings was devoted to this effort, and as of April 2, 2002, a new Charter which expands upon the concepts of the original two Funds and which provides a detailed operative framework for both administration and grants-making for the Fairview United Methodist Church Endowment Fund was adopted by the Church Council. With the Charter in place, the now formally recognized Planned Giving and Endowment Committee has undertaken a second mission, that being to publicize the Endowment Fund and educate the Church's membership as to its operation and the various means by which its funding may be multiplied. It is to this end that we have produced the enclosed brochure summarizing the major provisions of the Charter and the purposes of the Endowment Fund. As a further step toward fulfilling our objectives, the Committee is sponsoring a seminar on planned giving, featuring Barbara J. Bibbee, CFRE and Director of Current and Deferred Giving and Financial Development for the General Board of Global Ministries of the United Methodist Church. Mrs. Bibbee is a recognized authority in this field, and has graciously agreed to join us on Sunday, March 30, 2003, at Friendship Village to discuss various methods, tax-advantaged and otherwise, whereby interested individuals and couples can help to assure the future financial stability of Fairview Church's programming and mission. Further details will be provided in Bulletin inserts during the month of March, along with the opportunity to "register" for attendance. Please plan to join us on the 30th at 2:00 PM for what we believe will be a very enlightening session. Yours in Christ, Doug Kneisly, Chair Planned Giving and Endowment Committee
