About Us

A BRIEF HISTORY OF OUR CHURCH

Fairview Church began as a Sunday School organized in 1875 by Benjamin Joseph Mumma, a farmer who owned land along Fairview Avenue between Main Street and Catalpa Drive, as these streets are now known. He was called “Uncle Ben” by friends and neighbors . Classes were first held in a public schoolhouse on North Main Street, then in another school on the same intersection where the church now stands. The Sunday School eventually joined the United Brethren Church, which later became part of the United Methodist Church.

The first actual church building was built here in 1913 and the education building in 1939.

We have tried to stay loyal to our roots. We still believe in Christian Education, an emphasis on Bible study, tolerance of different points of view, and ordinary people working together. We have always been in this neighborhood and intend to remain.

During the summer of 2002 we had an unique Pulpit Exchange.
